Compatibility Guide

"A groundbreaking advancement in the field of obsolescence!"

This kit will let you convert almost any manual typewriter into a computer keyboard or iPad dock, quickly and easily. Anyone can do this modification -- absolutely no soldering is involved, and no special tools are necessary.
The kit comes ready to fit directly onto the undercarriage of your typewriter. Use a vintage typewriter as the main keyboard for your Mac or PC, or as a nifty keyboard dock for tablets such as the iPad.
NEW FEATURE: If you want to unplug from digital screens entirely, now you can type onto good old fashioned paper while your USB Typewriter saves your work directly to a micro-SD card for editing later. No screen necessary.
Installation:
Click Here to preview the simple steps involved in installing the kit on your own typewriter. Installation takes just two or three hours.

Customized for Your Typewriter
This kit comes pre-fitted to your exact brand of typewriter -- just select your make and model from the drop-down menu when checking out (don't worry if you don't get the make and model exactly right -- I just need to get an idea for what your typewriter looks like). If you don't already have a suitable typewriter for this conversion, its easy to find one with our buying guide, a curated list of affordable typewriters currently for sale online.

Tools Needed:
Flat-head screwdriver
High-Temperature Glue Gun
80 Grit Sandpaper or Emory Board
Wire Strippers

No Soldering Required!
This kit comes pre-assembled and ready to install on your machine, and there are extensive video instructions showing how to do this. The most you will need to know about electronics is how to strip a few wires.

Use with desktop and laptop computers
The USB Typewriter can work as a replacement for your computer's keyboard, allowing you to have a beautiful and stylish typewriter on your desk all day long. It works on Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.

Use with Tablets and Smartphones:

The USB Typewriter Kit will work as a keyboard dock for any tablet or smartphone that supports "USB OTG". This includes the vast majority of tablets, with the notable exception of the Kindle Fire and Nook tablets (see eReaders below). Note that your device will likely require a suitable USB cable, which you must provide. The Apple iPad, in particular, requires its own proprietary adapter cable, which is explained in my iPad Guide. To make connection to the world of tablets and smartphones simpler, we now offer a Bluetooth-Enabled USB Typewriter Kit
