Calibration
When you first plug in the USB Typewriter, all its microcontroller brain sees is a long row of contacts. It has no idea which contacts correspond to which typewriter keys. Handily, the USB Typewriter has a "Calibration Mode", where we can assign a unique character to each keypress event.
To access Calibration Mode:
1. Open up notepad or a similar word processor program and maximize it to fill the whole screen.
2. Unplug the USB Typewriter's USB cable.
3. Hold down the little orange pushbutton marked S1 while plugging the USB cable back in.
A message should appear that says:
USB TYPEWRITER
REV 1.0

CALIBRATING...TYPE THE FOLLOWING KEYS:
Then it will prompt you to type each letter of the alphabet, all the numerals, and several punctuation marks. If you come across a character that you don't wish to assign to your typewriter keyboard, hit spacebar to skip.
Note: Alt, Ctrl, and Shift can't be re-assigned in this way -- they are hard wired. Also, in the current firmware (Rev 1.5), Ctrl is not implemented. But in the rev 2.0 the little orange button S1 will serve as Ctrl.

All USB Typewriters come with a Fn button which accesses bonus keys such as 1, esc, F1-F12 etc.

What about punctuation marks and such, that use Shift+Key?
Does the program recognise the combination?

ALT+L gives you a 1. There are lots of bonus keys like that built in.
